Chimney Stabilization Project – Surfside Beach, TX

Chimney Repair Surfside TX

Coastal homes face some of the toughest weather conditions in Texas. At Texas Family Chimney Care, we’re often called out to beach communities like Surfside Beach to inspect chimneys that have taken a beating from salt air, moisture, wind, and storms. This project was a perfect example.

When we were called to inspect this chimney, it was completely rusted out, structurally weak, and at serious risk of collapse. Replacing the entire pipe and fireplace system would have been extremely costly and invasive, especially for a vacation property.

Instead, we came up with a smart, cost-effective solution: building a siding-style chimney chase around the existing pipe to secure and protect it from further damage.

New Chimney Built- Surfside TX

🧱 The Problem: Severely Rusted and Deteriorating Chimney

These pictures show exactly what we found—an old, rusted metal chimney pipe, completely exposed to the elements. Years of coastal weather had eaten away at the surface. The outer wall was crumbling, and it was clear that this chimney couldn’t withstand another storm season.

This top-down view shows how severe the rust was, with jagged metal edges and corrosion working its way deep into the pipe. It was no longer safe to leave this unprotected.

🛠️ The Solution: Chimney Framing and Siding Chase

📸 Image 4: Structural Support Frame

We began by building a pressure-treated wood frame around the chimney pipe. This frame acts as a structural cage, holding the pipe steady and preparing it for full enclosure.

📸 Image 5: Sheathing Installed

Next, we added OSB sheathing to enclose the frame. This gives us a smooth, sturdy base to work with. Every joint was sealed with water-resistant barrier to help block moisture intrusion.

📸 Image 6: Waterproof Underlayment Wrap

We wrapped the sheathed box in GAF ShingleMate synthetic underlayment, a durable, weather-resistant barrier that protects the structure beneath from water penetration.

💧 Flashing & Leak Protection

📸 Image 7: New Flashing Installed

Before applying siding, we installed brand new chimney flashing. You can see how it’s layered under the shingles and wraps tightly around the base of the chase. This flashing directs rainwater safely away from the roof and chimney—critical for preventing leaks.

🏠 Finishing Touches

📸 Image 8 & 9: Siding and Chimney Cap Installation

We completed the chase with fiber cement board siding, perfectly matching the home’s exterior aesthetic. All corners were sealed and painted for a clean, watertight finish. We also installed a new stainless steel chimney cap, which prevents water, debris, and animals from entering the flue.

✅ Final Result

The end result is a chimney that is now:

  • Structurally sound
  • Waterproof and sealed
  • Protected from further corrosion
  • Safe and attractive

This cost-effective rebuild will give the homeowners peace of mind without requiring a full fireplace system replacement.
